Hambrough is a Gold Rights Respecting School

Gold Award achieved in July 2017, reaccredited in October 2020 and again in 2024.

At Hambrough Primary School, we are committed to helping every child achieve their academic potential while developing creatively, physically and emotionally. We want our pupils to leave us as confident, resilient and compassionate young people, ready for the next stage of their education and life.

Our Rights Respecting journey began in 2015 and has become an integral part of school life. We are proud to hold UNICEF UK's prestigious Gold Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA), recognising our commitment to placing children's rights at the heart of everything we do.

The RRSA is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which sets out the rights every child needs to survive, thrive, participate and reach their full potential. Through this work, our pupils have developed a strong understanding of their rights, responsibilities and the importance of fairness, respect and equality. They have also explored the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development, developing an awareness of global issues and how they can make a positive difference in the world.

Making a Difference

As part of our commitment to children's rights, Hambrough regularly takes part in UNICEF's OutRight Campaign. This initiative empowers children to speak up for the rights of all children and take action on important global issues such as climate change, poverty, health, wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

One of our previous campaigns focused on clean air and children's right to health (Article 24 of the UNCRC). Through awareness-raising activities, fundraising and participation in World Children's Day, our pupils learned how they can influence positive change within their local and global communities.

Gold Reaccreditation

Following our Gold reaccreditation, assessors highlighted several strengths of the school:

• Children's knowledge of the UNCRC is excellent.
• Children's rights are embedded across all aspects of school life.
• Leaders, governors and staff demonstrate a strong and sustained commitment to rights education.
• Pupils have a strong understanding of the Global Goals and have led effective campaigns promoting sustainable living.
• Rights and respect are reflected in the school's positive culture and behaviour.

Our Headteacher described the Rights Respecting journey as one of the most significant developments in the school, helping pupils, families and the wider community to develop a strong sense of social justice, respect and sustainable living.

We remain committed to strengthening our Rights Respecting work, ensuring that children's rights continue to shape our curriculum, values and everyday experiences at Hambrough.
