Curriculum Intent
At Hambrough Primary School, our Computing curriculum aims to provide pupils with a broad and balanced computing education through a structured and progressive approach to learning how computer systems work. We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to become digitally literate and to participate fully in an increasingly digital world.
From the Early Years Foundation Stage, children begin to develop early computing skills through exploration, play and the use of technology, building confidence and curiosity. As pupils progress through the school, they learn how digital systems work and how technology can be used to communicate, collaborate, express ideas and create digital content, while understanding the importance of being safe and responsible digital citizens.
Curriculum Implementation
In EYFS, Computing is taught through Understanding the World, where children explore technology through practical, hands‑on experiences and adult‑guided activities.
From Key Stage 1 onwards, pupils follow a carefully sequenced Computing curriculum that develops key disciplinary skills, including:
- Finding things out
- Developing ideas and making things happen
- Exchanging and sharing information
- Reviewing, modifying and evaluating work
- Communicating computationally
- Digital knowledge and responsible citizenship
Learning builds progressively through the three core areas of computer science, information technology and digital literacy, allowing pupils to develop secure understanding and apply their skills across a range of contexts.
Impact
By the end of EYFS, children show confidence in using technology and can talk about how it is used in the world around them.
As pupils move through the school, they become competent, confident and responsible users of technology, able to understand how digital systems work, create digital content and use technology safely and effectively. Pupils leave Hambrough Primary School well prepared for the next stage of their education and equipped with essential digital skills for modern life.
