Curriculum Intent
At Hambrough Primary School, Religious Education (RE), taught in line with the Ealing Agreed RE Syllabus, is an invaluable and essential part of pupils’ education. Our RE curriculum aims to provide pupils with the knowledge and understanding needed to appreciate the role and significance of religion in society, culture and individual lives.
We value the diversity of beliefs held by pupils and their families and strive to create an environment where children feel safe to express their own beliefs while developing tolerance, respect and understanding of the beliefs of others. Through RE, pupils explore how religion influences areas such as art, music, literature and everyday life, helping them to better understand the world around them.
Curriculum Implementation
From the Early Years Foundation Stage, children begin to explore religious stories, celebrations and special times through discussion, play and reflection.
From Key Stage 1 onwards, pupils follow a carefully sequenced RE curriculum that develops key disciplinary skills, including:
- Beliefs, teachings and sources of wisdom and authority
- Practices and ways of life
- Ways of expressing meaning
- Identity, diversity and belonging
- Meaning, purpose and truth
- Values and commitments
Learning is structured around the core concepts of Believing, Belonging and Behaving, enabling pupils to build secure understanding and make meaningful connections between religious beliefs, practices and their impact on individuals and communities.
Curriculum Impact
By the end of EYFS, children show curiosity about religious stories and celebrations and can talk about similarities and differences between themselves and others.
As pupils progress through the school, they develop the knowledge, understanding and respect needed to engage thoughtfully with different religions and worldviews. Pupils leave Hambrough Primary School as reflective, respectful and informed individuals, with an appreciation of religious diversity and an understanding of the role religion plays in shaping people’s lives and society.
