Curriculum Intent

At Hambrough Primary School, Relationships Education and Growing Up (REGU) is taught as part of our Health Education programme, in line with the London Borough of Ealing’s recommended scheme of work. This area of learning has been statutory since September 2020.

Our intent is to ensure that pupils receive timely, accurate and age‑appropriate information about relationships, personal safety and growing up. In a world where children are exposed to a wide range of information through the media and online sources, we aim to support pupils in developing understanding in a safe, supportive and structured environment.

Through REGU, we help pupils to build confidence, self‑respect and resilience, enabling them to make positive choices and prepare for the physical and emotional changes they will experience as they grow.

Curriculum Implementation

REGU is taught during the summer term as part of the school’s wider PSHE and Health Education curriculum. Lessons are carefully planned to be age‑appropriate, inclusive and sensitive to the needs of all pupils.

Teaching focuses on:

  • Understanding healthy and respectful relationships
  • Keeping safe and recognising trusted adults
  • Developing awareness of physical and emotional changes
  • Knowing where and how to seek help and support

Lessons are delivered in a calm and respectful environment, where pupils feel confident to ask questions. Teaching follows statutory guidance and supports pupils’ learning at an appropriate pace.

Curriculum Impact

As a result of the REGU programme, pupils develop the knowledge, understanding and confidence needed to understand themselves, their relationships and the changes they experience as they grow.

Pupils leave Hambrough Primary School better prepared for the next stage of their education, with the ability to make informed, positive choices, build healthy relationships and approach growing up with confidence.
